Presentation Description:

Dr. Abbasi will discuss suicide in society and specifically in the Muslim community. Many of the stressors, trauma, and health issues relating to suicide are not uncommon to the Muslim community, but there are cultural differences as it relates to prevention and intervention.

Dr. Abbasi will describe the culture of Islam and how it views the topic of mental illness from assessments to treatment services. She will also describe culturally appropriate care from a patient’s perspective including the spiritual viewpoint.
